Shute CDD, Major
Queen’s South Africa Medal with the Clasps “Transvaal” and “Cape Colony” awarded to Major CDD Shute (born 1868) who was a member of the West Sussex Regiment and the Intelligence Department. Shute had already served in the Sudan in 1898. During the relief of the siege of Mafeking he was Intelligence Officer to General Carrington’s Force. When Queen Victoria died in 1901, Major Shute was awarded the Kings South Africa Medal for further service during the ongoing Boer War. He continued his service during the Great War, being awarded the War Medal.
