Having landed on French soil with the 53rd Welsh Division, 27 year old Captain Donald Phelps from Bradford is here awarded the MBE by Field Marshal Montgomery for gallant and distinguished service on the Western Front.
Monty’s signature appears on the photograph which was taken in Dusseldorf where Captain Phelps MBE was stationed after the war.
His medals are, left to right: MBE, 1939-45 Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal.
