Retiring in the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, Richard Maunder Richards was awarded the American Bronze Star as a young Lieutenant.

His medals chart a long and globe-spanning career and are, left to right; 1939-45 Star, Italy Star, Defence Medal, War Medal, General Service Medal with Clasps for Malaysia and Palestine 45-48, Territorial Efficiency Decoration, Bronze Star (USA) and Pingat Jasa Malaysia.

His medals were gifted to the museum in 2018 by his daughter.
